El Mencho is a drug lord from Mexico and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a trafficking organization based in Jalisco.
Mencho is Mexico’s most wanted man and one of the infamous fugitives in the United States. El is wanted for drug trafficking, involvement in organized crime, and undocumented firearms possession.
He is said to be in charge of global drug trafficking operations. Under El’s leadership, the CJNG rose to become one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations.
Is Drug Lord El Mencho Arrested Today?
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that soldiers confronted criminals, including “bosses,” at a “meeting of two gangs” in Jalisco state on 10th August 2022. Meanwhile, there is no official report on El Mencho’s arrest.
The CJNG boss El Mencho’s wife’s detention is nonetheless a victory against the cartel and a significant blow to the group’s ability to launder money. Rosalinda González Valencia, was apprehended on November 15, 2021.
In the western state of Jalisco, Rosalinda was taken into custody in the municipality of Zapopan, in what the defense ministry described as “a significant blow to the financial structure of organized crime in the state.”
Rosalinda was thus arrested for various crimes, with evidence pointing to her involvement in “the illicit financial operation of an organized crime group,” according to the ministry.
Later, she got released on bail a few months after her arrest. Former US Drug Enforcement Administration international operations chief Mike Vigil called Rosalinda a “narco queen” whose family has long been linked to drug trafficking.
Jalisco Cartel Bosses Confronted By Police In Western Mexico
Authorities arrested many drug cartel figures in western Mexico, prompting the destruction of vehicles and businesses in two states.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador did not name those arrested in Jalisco state on Tuesday, but he did say soldiers confronted criminals, including “bosses,” at a “meeting of two gangs.”
Images on social media showed men seizing cars and buses and torching them in the middle of highways. Others displayed abandoned convenience stores.
Cartels frequently cause such havoc to prevent authorities from transporting cartel leaders. Andrés stated that officers were still present in the areas on Wednesday, looking to make additional arrests.
Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro stated on Twitter that no one was injured due to the arrests. The Jalisco, New Generation cartel, rules the region, and its leader, “El Mencho,” is wanted by Mexican and US authorities. There was no evidence that Mencho was present at the fight.
Crime Boss El Mencho Net Worth: How Rich Is He?
El Mencho is said to be worth more than $1 billion. According to InsightCrime, Mencho owned 100 Japanese restaurants, real estate, shopping malls, newspapers, and a tequila brand that attempted to export to Europe.
He also had “luxurious cabins built on a lagoon on Mexico’s Pacific Coast” and “gold bars” for money laundering. The drug cartel used to own a ranch with exotic animals such as a Bengal tiger and endangered birds.
According to Univision, these are just a few of El Mencho’s properties and items seized by US and Mexican authorities in recent years. The DEA figure is only an estimate, but it gives an idea of the scope of El Mencho’s illegal operations.
