Is Dr. Charles Stanley Still Preaching On TV?

In 1969, Stanley began working for First Baptist Church of Atlanta, and in 1971, he was appointed senior pastor. The Chapel Hour, a half-hour religious television show, was the first broadcast by Stanley in 1972.

Dr. Charles Stanley’s Family

Dr. Charles was married to Anna J. Stanley and, after many years of living together, got divorced later; before separation, they had two children.

Becky is the name of Charles F. Stanley’s daughter, who has occasionally been referenced in sermons. Andy, the pastor of North Point Community Church in adjacent Alpharetta, Georgia, is Stanley’s son and is following his father’s steps.

Following the separation of this couple in the spring of 1992, Charles’s wife Anna J. Stanley of more than 40 years, filed for divorce on June 22, 1993. The two decided that Anna would change the case to ask for a legal separation rather than a divorce while attempting to make amends.

On March 20, 1995, she filed for divorce once more. The Moody Radio Network station in Atlanta removed Stanley’s daily program during that period, even though the managers felt that there was no evidence of reconciliation, even though the marriage had not yet ended.

The Stanleys had a legal separation at the time of the final divorce filing on February 16, 2000. On May 11, 2000, a court granted the final divorce judgment.

There was a minor dispute about their divorce at the Southern Baptist Convention. Reports that Stanley had threatened to quit as a pastor if he divorced compounded the situation. Charles said at the time of their split that he did not think it would lead to a divorce, but when it did, his church’s members overwhelmingly decided to maintain him as pastor.

As long as he didn’t get remarried, Stanley was permitted to continue serving as pastor under First Baptist Atlanta’s rules. On November 10, 2014, Charles’s wife passed away.
