Curtis was born March 16, 1981, in the city of Illinois to Curtis Granderson Sr., dean and physical education teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Illinois, and his wife, Mary Granderson, a chemistry teacher at the ‘secondary school. He grew up in Blue Island and Lynwood, Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago, USA.
Granderson has a half-sister, Monica, who is an English professor at Jackson State University.
His love for baseball began in his early years. Growing up, he fell in love with the Atlanta Braves instead of supporting his original club, the Chicago Cubs. That’s because he was always disappointed every time he rushed home to see a Cubs game resuming his beloved show.
In his high school days at ThorntonLansing Curtis Granderson played basketball so well that he batted a .369 average with 11 homers and 88 RBIs..
