Mathew completed his primary education at Our Lady of Merces High School in Merces before moving on to Santa Cruz High School in Santa Cruz for his secondary and higher secondary school education (HSSE).
While finishing his primary education at Merces School, he was allowed to play the lead role of ‘Bap’pa’ in a Konkani one-act play titled “Bap’pa Montri Zata,” directed by Francis Martins, a school instructor.
Mathew appeared in a Konkani one-act play and an English play for the same school gathering.
He had many opportunities to perform on stage in plays while in high school and college. Aside from one-act plays performed during the Christmas season in the Tiswadi taluka, he also joined the youth and Legion of Mary groups in his parish and participated in plays written and staged by catechist Caetan Braganza during the Legionaries’ Annual Day celebration.
