Chris Kamara Illness Explored
Chris Kamara shared details about his seven-month fight with Hypothyroidism on Twitter earlier this month to commemorate Mental Health Day.
The father-of-two went into depth about the mental health issues he’s had to cope with due to the illness, alleging he “suffered” in quiet.
“There are dozens of things I can track, and I’m thinking, ‘what’s going on?’ “Kamara initially expressed his concerns about his health during a talk with fellow commentator Gary Lineker in March, explaining: “There are tons of things I can track, and I’m thinking ‘what’s going on?’
“I have a swollen tongue, which leads you to slur our words and slows down, not your thoughts, which are present, but the transfer of those thoughts to the mouth, which allows you to speak coherently.”
According to Kamara, further blood testing revealed Kamara had an underactive thyroid, which affects roughly 2% of the UK population.
He described his symptoms as “feeling cold,” adding, “Even on hot days, you’re shivering and cold, weakness, muscle fatigue, and exhaustion.”
Having suffered in silence myself for 18 months, I am now one month on after finding out my problem is Hypothyroidism! With medication I am on the mend?Really brought it home 2me that nobody knows what’s going on inside your head unless you tell somebody #MentalHealthAwareness
