Seahawks running back Chris Carson retires from the NFL after five seasons due to a neck injury, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.
The decision comes after the running back failed his physical, Rapoport cited.
In 2021, Carson played four games before suffering a neck injury which led him to miss some games. That same year, it was revealed that Carson needed neck surgery, which prematurely ended his 2021 season.
The Seahawks released Carson with a failed physical designation later Tuesday, July 26, 2022, which allows the running back to receive injury protection benefits.
“It’s a big disappointment.” “We took it as long as we possibly could with him, he saw a number of specialists, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to pass our physical”, Seahawks general manager John Schneider stated.
In five seasons with the Seahawks after being selected in the seventh round, 249th overall in the 2017 draft out of Oklahoma State, Carson was one of the most underrated, determined backs in the NFL.
The 27-year-old NFL star Carson finishes his career with 3,502 yards on 796 carries and 24 TDs, including back-to-back 1,100-plus rushing campaigns in 2018 and 2019.
