Screenwriter and director Brandon Cronenberg is a Canadian who was born on January 10, 1980. He is Caitlin Cronenberg’s brother and the son of David Cronenberg. His science fiction horror movies Infinity Pool (2012), Possessor (2020), and Antiviral (2012) are well renowned (2023). For his efforts, he has received numerous awards.
Cronenberg directed the short film Broken Tulips in 2008, about people who pay to be injected with viruses harvested from celebrities. Cronenberg has stated that the film was inspired by a viral infection he once had. The “central idea came to him in a fever dream during a bout of illness,” according to journalist Jill Lawless. It was shaped further when he saw Sarah Michelle Gellar’s interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!; what struck him was when “she said she was sick and if she sneezed she’d infect the entire audience, and everyone just started cheering.”
Cronenberg’s short film Please Speak Continuously and Describe Your Experiences as They Come to You, starring Deragh Campbell, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the International Critics’ Week section in 2019. The film won the Canal+ Grand Prize at the L’Étrange Festival in Paris and was included in TIFF’s annual year-end Canada’s Top Ten list for short films in December 2019.
Cronenberg stated that the visuals for Please Speak Continuously and Describe Your Experiences as They Come to You came from experiments he and his cinematographer Karim Hussain were doing for a feature film he was working on called Possessor.
