Bradley Austin Chubb is an American football outside linebacker for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at NC State.
Chubb received marginal playing time as a freshman, mostly on special teams. He switched from outside linebacker to defensive end before his sophomore season and broke the starting lineup by the beginning of the season.
During Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chubb recorded his first sack of the season on Gardner Minshew in the 26–24 loss. In Week 4 against the New York Jets, Chubb recorded his first 2.5 sacks of the season on Sam Darnold during the 37–28 win.
The Broncos exercised the fifth-year option on Chubb’s contract on April 30, 2021, which will guarantee a salary of $12.72 million for the 2022 season. He was placed on injured reserve on September 22, 2021, after undergoing ankle surgery. He was activated on November 27.
Is Bradley Chubb out for the year?
If the Broncos got this right, Gregory and Chubb could become one of the best pass-rush duos in the league.
“Bradley Chubb is going to have a monster year,’’ Broncos offensive tackle Garett Bolles said recently. “I have seen the moves, I’ve seen the demeanour.”
Now it’s just a matter of seeing him stay healthy.
“[Chubb] is in a really good place,’’ Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said. “The guy just has a lot of ability — that’s always the bottom line. And he’s healthy, and that’s going to allow him just to play at his highest level.’’
Miller always said it’s Chubb’s quickness off the snap in a 275-pound body that gives him the chance to be one of the league’s elite if Chubb’s body will just cooperate.
And if all that happens, the momentum might carry through the contract situation, although that’s not a subject Chubb cares to discuss.
“It’s the first offseason he hasn’t had to rehab and hasn’t had surgery,” Broncos general manager George Paton said. “We’re seeing the Bradley that I thought we were going to get when I got here [in January 2021]. He’s playing with reckless abandon. He’s looked as good as the year when he had 12 sacks as far as I’m concerned … We want him here a long time.”
Is Bradley Chubb injured?
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Denver Broncos edge rusher Randy Gregory will need to undergo arthroscopic surgery on the knee he injured during Sunday’s game.
Former first-round pick Bradley Chubb has been playing well, so that is a plus, but others will need to step up in place of Gregory. Baron Browning has been receiving snaps throughout the season and is likely to get the start opposite of Chubb moving forward. We will also likely see second-round Nik Bonitto get some passing down reps at edge rusher as well moving forward as well.
