Iman Asante Shumpert was born on the 26th of June 1990 in Oak Park, Illinois. His father’s name is Odis while his mother’s name is L’Tanya. The pro basketballer also has three brothers namely Odis Jr., Ahrii and Kasani. Shumpert spent his formative years in Oak Park and fell in love with basketball as a child. He regularly played with his brothers in their backyard and grew up idolizing NBA great, Michael Jordan. The young Shumpert also had a beloved aunt who would always take him to see live games. During one of these games, he got the chance to shake hands with a Chicago Bulls player and resolved to one day play in the NBA.
In order to realise his lofty ambitions, Iman Shumpert joined the basketball team while in Oak Park and River Forest High School. He led his school to multiple conference titles and also received MVP honours in his junior and senior year.
