Ian Thomas is an American football player who was drafted into the National Football League (NFL) in the fourth round of the 2018 draft. Before joining the NFL, Ian played both football and basketball at Digital Harbor High School before transferring to the University of Indiana for his college football career.
He was subsequently selected by the Panthers during the NFL Draft. Marty Hurney, the Panthers’ general manager, described his young player as one who has the complete skills of a full tight end. Continue reading…
Ian Thomas’ bio
The Tight End was born on June 6, 1995 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a football and basketball player at Digital Harbor High School but never received offer letters from Division 1 colleges, so he graduated from Nassau Community College in New York in 2016. He then enrolled at Indiana University for his junior year and after playing two seasons, he became a highly sought-after recruit, eventually making the Big Ten.
As a junior in 2016, Ian Thomas played all 13 games as a blocking tight end. He only recorded 3 catches for 28 yards and no touchdowns. However, he played with renewed vigor in his senior year, 2017, recording a 71-yard touchdown in a game against Georgia Southern. As a result, he turned pro and received the Mackey Award Tight End of the Week. He totaled 25 receptions for 376 yards and 5 touchdowns in his senior year.
He eventually accepted an invitation to play at the 2018 Senior Bowl and upped his draft camp with his impressive performance during Senior Bowl practices. Ian later played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and was part of the Houston Texans’ South team, which won the North team.
He also attended the Indiana Pro Day but was only running position exercises when he decided to stand on his combine numbers for the other exercises. He then attended private meetings and workouts with the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars. At the end of the preliminary draft process, a larger number of experts predicted that Ian would be selected in the second or third round of the NFL draft. While DraftScout.com and CBS Sports ranked the former Indiana player as the fifth best potential tight end player in the draft, Scouts Inc ranked sixth.
Ian Thomas was eventually drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the 101st overall winner and sixth tight end selected that year. His deal with the Panthers was sealed on May 10, 2018, when the team signed him to a four-year, $3.20 million contract, including a $747,994 signing bonus.
Ian debuted in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys and recorded 4 receiving yards on his first two career receptions.
family, woman
Ian Thomas was born to Earl (father) and Martha (mother) and grew up in East Baltimore, a crime-ridden area. He was one of his parents’ nine children and was particularly close to his mother. A quiet child who didn’t talk much, Ian was given special attention by his mother, who always treated him like a baby just to make sure he was okay.
Unfortunately, the special love and attention he got from his mother was cut short in 2004 when she died on Ian’s 8th birthday of kidney and liver failure resulting from an abscessed tooth. His father had no choice but to take on the difficult responsibility of being both father and mother to his nine children. He worked hard to provide for his family and ruled his family with an iron fist so as not to lose any of his children to the weirdness that characterized their neighborhood.
Just as Ian and his siblings were still trying to adjust to life without a mother, death struck again and this time it was their father who died of a fatal heart attack. At the age of nine, Ian was orphaned and the family, who had always lived under one roof, had to part with some of his siblings who were sent to live with an uncle.
Unable to bear this unpleasant development,Ian’s eldest brother Clif Farmer, who was 19, filed for custody of his three siblings (Ashanta, Earl Jr. and Ian Thomas) and got his wish. Faced with the responsibility of taking care of his younger ones, Cliff got a job. Raised by his three siblings in the Park Heights neighborhood of West/Northwest Baltimore, the teenage father, just like his parents, struggled to keep them off the streets.
Although they were close from a young age, Ian and Clif grew even closer. Clif described Ian as his right hand man, while the footballer said his older brother is like his father figure, someone he would go to for everything. Ian Thomas blossomed into a football and basketball star during his high school under the tutelage of his older brother, and the rest is now history.
Growing up an orphan, in a familiar environment, would have made it very difficult, if not impossible, for a young man to get there because of crime and violence, where Ian Thomas is today, but he’s proven to many that coming from an apparently negative background is no excuse to settle for a life of mediocrity.
At the moment there is no information about the tight end’s relationship, so we assume that he is still single.
Height, weight, body measurements
The Carolina Panthers fourth-round draft pick isn’t someone who can be overlooked when entering a room. He’s 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) tall, weighs 259 pounds (117 kg), has an a, and has massive 11.5-inch hands, the prototypical size for a tight-fitting end of the NFL.
