“I am beyond devastated that my great friend Hugh Hudson, who I have known for more than 45 years, has passed away,” said Nigel Havers, who played Chariots of Fire in 1981. One of the highlights of my professional career was Chariots of Fire, and like so many others, I owe him a lot for what came after. I will miss him a lot.

Prior to joining Alan Parker’s team on Midnight Express as a second unit director, Hudson first made advertisements. Three years later, his movie Chariots of Fire, which chronicled the experiences of two British Olympians in 1924, became a global sensation.
