Taking a bus to and from NYC can often be the most inexpensive way to get to Manhattan. Some popular bus company names are Megabus, Boltbus, and Greyhound and most bus companies will drop passengers off at major landmarks.

To use the public bus in New York, just stand at the stop, and as your bus approaches, just signal with your hand that you want the bus to stop. Fares are $2.75 for standard buses, and $6.50 for express buses. Fares can be paid in cash, by MetroCard or using contactless via the OMNY system.

A day is a 24-hour calendar day, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Like any other MetroCard, you get an automatic free transfer between the subway and a local bus route, SIR and a local bus, or between two local bus routes.

Unlimited MetroCards

You can choose a 7–day unlimited card or a 30-day unlimited. There is a $1 fee when you purchase a card. *Do not throw away your card when it expires, or you will have to pay $1 again for a new card. An unlimited 7–Day MetroCard costs $33.

As long as your MetroCard has sufficient Pay-Per-Ride value on it to pay PATH fare, it can be used on PATH. PATH does not accept EasyPayXpress or Unlimited MetroCards. MetroCards may be purchased from any PATH vending machine as well as from any New York City Transit vending machine.

AirTrain is free unless you start or end your journey at Jamaica and Howard Beach Stations. There, the fee is $7.75 USD, payable only by Metrocard. There are Metrocard machines located at both Jamaica and Howard Beach Stations.

A monthly pass will increase to $127, up from $121. The fare increase vote comes as state lawmakers decide whether to approve new revenue streams for the system.
