How to spell seizure

What causes seizure?

Anything that interrupts the normal connections between nerve cells in the brain can cause a seizure. This includes a high fever, high or low blood sugar, alcohol or medicine withdrawal, or a brain concussion. But when a person has 2 or more seizures with no known cause, this is diagnosed as epilepsy.

What is a seizure?

A seizure is a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells (also called neurons or nerve cells) that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching or limpness), behaviors, sensations or states of awareness.

What is the correct spelling of seizures?

the act or an instance of seizing. the state of being seized. a taking possession of an item, property, or person legally or by force. a sudden attack, as of epilepsy or some other disease.

What is the English meaning of seizure disorder?

Seizure disorders: One of a great many medical conditions that are characterized by episodes of uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain (seizures). Some seizure disorders are hereditary, but others are caused by birth defects or environmental hazards, such as lead poisoning.

Can seizure be cured?

There’s no cure for epilepsy, but early treatment can make a big difference. Uncontrolled or prolonged seizures can lead to brain damage. Epilepsy also raises the risk of sudden unexplained death. The condition can be successfully managed.

What are the 3 types of seizures?

The different types of generalized seizures are:
  • absence seizures (formerly known as petit mal)
  • tonic-clonic or convulsive seizures (formerly known as grand mal)
  • atonic seizures (also known as drop attacks)
  • clonic seizures.
  • tonic seizures.
  • myoclonic seizures.

What is a mini seizure?

A partial (focal) seizure happens when unusual electrical activity affects a small area of the brain. When the seizure does not affect awareness, it is known as a simple partial seizure. Simple partial seizures can be: Motor – affecting the muscles of the body. Sensory – affecting the senses.

Can you talk during a seizure?

People who have simple partial seizures do not lose consciousness. However, some people, although fully aware of what’s going on, find they can‘t speak or move until the seizure is over. They remain awake and aware throughout. Sometimes they can talk quite normally to other people during the seizure.

Can you feel a seizure coming on?

Some patients may have a feeling of having lived a certain experience in the past, known as “déjà vu.” Other warning signs preceding seizures include daydreaming, jerking movements of an arm, leg, or body, feeling fuzzy or confused, having periods of forgetfulness, feeling tingling or numbness in a part of the body,
