How do I reset my hot water heater?
Does hot water heater need to be reset?
Reason #1: Bad Thermostat
Electric water heaters have 2 thermostats, an upper and a lower one. The reset button is a feature on the upper thermostat. However, if one of these thermostats malfunctions, it may get stuck ON and fail to turn off the element it serves, which causes the reset button to trip.
How long do you hold the reset button on a hot water heater?
Some heaters may not click when you press on the reset button. If you don’t hear the click even after pressing on the button for about five seconds, reassemble the heater anyway. It will probably still restore hot water.
Why is my water heater not getting hot?
If an electric water heater is not producing hot water, it could be a simple problem like a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Additionally, some electric water heaters have a circuit-style safety switch located near or on the thermostat.
