Should I remove yellow jacket nest?
Assess the situation: While seeing yellow jackets on your property can be scary, if the nest is in an area of the property that sees little to no human activity, it may not be necessary to remove it. Yellow jackets help to control the population of pest insects like mosquitoes and may actually be doing you a favor.
What should you do if you find a yellow jacket nest?
If you do disturb a yellow jacket nest, general guidelines are to slowly walk away with both hands covering the face to protect the more sensitive body areas. It is best to walk toward dense vegetation or enter a vehicle or building to avoid the stinging insects. Swift movements will only attract more yellow jackets.
How do you move a yellow jacket nest?
Put the lid on and move the nest away from your home. Let it sit, covered, for about an hour, then go back and carefully remove the lid. This will get the nest off your house without killing the wasps. Also there is no way of reattaching the nest to a structure, and the wasps won’t be able to do so either.
Will Yellow Jackets reuse a nest?
Yellow jackets and hornets do NOT reuse the same nest the following year. All that is left is harmless paper. Some people like to caulk breaks, close up holes, fill in holes in the yard, or remove old nests from last year.
