What is a phoneme example?
A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in speech. When we teach reading we teach children which letters represent those sounds. For example – the word ‘hat’ has 3 phonemes – ‘h’ ‘a’ and ‘t’.
How do you pronounce the word phoneme?
Why is it impossible to pronounce the phoneme?
It’s because the notion of a phoneme is a theoretical abstraction over actual speech production. Nobody ever pronounces Eg /b/ in exactly the same way twice.
