How do you pronounce the word hawk?
Is the H silent in WHIP?
The H, for the most part, is not. It is pronounced as though it were spelled “wip”. Now, there are people in some parts of the English-speaking world who pronounce these “wh” words (whip, white, when, where) such that the H is pronounced, but it sounds like it’s before the W. So it would come out like “hwip”.
