How do you pronounce Diastasis Recti abdominis?
Is one finger width Diastasis Recti?
Myth 1: It’s all about the gap
The rectus abdominis (6-pack muscles) is not, has never been and will never be, one solid muscle. Medically speaking, a separation of two finger widths or more is considered a Diastasis Recti – but not everyone with a 2 finger gap should be put in the DR category!
Is a Diastasis Recti a hernia?
A diastasis of the abdominal wall, (diastasis recti), is not a hernia. Clinically, a diastasis may look like a hernia in the sense that when the abdomen is flexed, there is a noticeable and cosmetically unpleasing bulge, usually located in the upper abdomen in the midline, above your belly button.
What makes Diastasis Recti worse?
Doing exercises that stretch your connective tissue either in a forward or sideways direction can create a diastasis or make it worse. If you cannot engage your transverse muscle, your rectus abdominis or abdominal muscles are moving in a forward direction stretching your connective tissue.
