How to Keep Pancakes Warm

Keeping your cooked pancakes warm is an easier task. There’s nothing enjoyable and more rewarding than feasting on a full plate of fluffy and warm pancakes. Besides, there’s no worst thing than having a plate of mushy, hard, or cold pancakes early in the morning. As you know, pancakes are nice when eaten while still warm.

However, the following guide highlights some methods you can use to keep your pancakes warm. Each of them is effective:

How to Keep Pancakes Warm Using  an Oven

Pancakes are prepared on a griddle, and there’s no need to bake them using an oven. Rather, you can use it to keep warm the already-cooked pancakes.

  1. Before you add them in the oven, start by preheating it to 200 °F. This is a nice temperature if you want to keep your pancakes warm without cooking them further.
  • When you are preparing other breakfast foods such as eggs or bacon simultaneously, make sure you fry them using the stove instead of baking them on the oven. This will give space for warming the pancakes.
  1. Position the oven’s baking sheet on the center rack.

The baking sheet is essential as it protects your food from sliding via the bars of your oven rack. Furthermore, it prevents the lower sides of the pancakes from getting charred.

  1. Stack them in a greaseproof paper.

Once you finish cooking each pancake on the pan, please put it on the oven’s baking sheet. After that, add a greaseproof paper between each pancake inside the stack.

The greaseproof paper (also known as a parchment paper) is vital in keeping the pancakes free from sticking together once they get stacked. If you don’t use a greaseproof paper, the pancakes won’t retain their original textures and shapes, which will make them hard to serve.

  1. Leave the pancakes until you are prepared to serve them

The temperature setting that you initially set on the oven will keep the cakes warm until the actual time you’ll be ready to feast on them. But make sure you don’t leave the pancakes inside the oven for a long time. Let them stay for a maximum of 1 hour as this will keep them warm, and any longer than that might burn or dry your pancakes.

How to Keep Pancakes Warm Using a Microwave

You can use a microwave to warm small pancake batches. Even though an oven is ideal for warming pancakes, a microwave does the task too but works in a pinch, more so if you have a small family.

However, here’s what to do if you want to warm your pancakes using a microwave:

  • Pick a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl then fill it with water.
  • After that, move it inside the microwave then heat the water until it boils.
  • Then put a large plate on top of the bowl then shut the microwave door.
  • Next, as you cook the pancakes, ensure you place them on the plate in the microwave. The hot steam coming from the bowl will warm your pancakes and keep them moist until you’re prepared to serve them.

This is an easy and quick way to ensure that your pancakes are warm, soft, and moist. The only drawback is that a microwave has a tiny space, which will allow you warm pancakes in small batches.

How to Keep Pancakes Warm Using a Toaster Oven

This is also another way of keeping tiny batches of pancakes warm. Here’s what to do:

  • Preheat the toaster oven to 150 degrees F.
  • Then place an empty and clean baking sheet on the middle rack.
  • Next, shift the already cooked pancakes from the pan to the toaster oven. Put each pancake you prepare on top of the baking sheet.

The pancakes will remain warm inside the toaster oven until when you’ll be ready to eat them.

A toaster oven can keep your pancakes warm for up to 40 minutes. If you extend the time, they’ll begin drying out. When using a convection oven, be sure to turn off its setting as the fan can cause more mess to the pancakes by making them dry out. But if you can’t turn the convection setting off, lower the temperature by 25 degrees F, then heat them at 125 degrees F rather than 150.

Warming Tricks

Here are simple tricks and tips to consider if you want the pancakes to remain soft and warm inside the oven.

  • Make sure you place the pancakes in a single layer. Don’t stack them. Indeed, stacking your pancakes can also keep them warm, but this will make the pancakes soggy after a short time.
  • It’s very common to wrap food using an aluminum foil, but never wrap pancakes using an aluminum foil. This will ruin their texture and taste as foil captures al steam inside, making your pancakes wet and soggy.
  • Never use a pancake warmer as this makes your pancakes fluffy, and they won’t stay warm. Pancake warmers make a nice serving bowl but won’t keep the pancakes warm. Therefore, your best choice should be an oven.
