How to install wallpaper with glue

As its name suggests, ‘Paste the wall‘ papers allow you to apply your paste to the wall before hanging, rather than to the back of the wallpaper. Yes, if you find it easier to hang conventionally then you can paste the back of Paste the wallpapers. It’s still quicker as there is no ‘soaking time’.

Standard adhesive consists of cellulose ether and starch – the right choice for light to heavy paper-based wallpapers. Special adhesive contains synthetic resin in order to increase the adhesive strength – perfect for heavy wallpapers like wood-chip, vinyl, anaglypta or textured wallpapers.

What paste is best to use for paste the wall wallpapers? You can use an off the shelf extra strong powder/flake adhesive such as Bartoline or Solvite. The concentration of mixing will be on the packaging but as a rule of thumb the concentration is double that used with the regular paper version of your wall–covering.

Soaking time is dependent on room temperature and wallpaper type (around 8-12 minutes). Only paste a small number of strips at one time, and hang them in the order they were pasted. The strips can also be pasted with a papering / pasting machine.

Ready mixed wallpaper paste has the main advantage that it can be used straight from the tub without you having to do anything. This makes it much quicker to get started on your wallpapering as you don’t have to measure out any water or spend time mixing the power to the right consistency.

Use a roller not a brush to apply your wallpaper paste super-smoothly on to the wallpaper – but note that some wallpaper pastes can strip the finish, especially if the paper is fine, so check to see which type is best for your paper (a wheat base is often good).

For up to 3 rolls of wallpaper, we would advise 2.5kg of paste. For larger projects of up to 6 rolls, 5kg of wallpaper paste.

Rust-Oleum SureGrip Strippable Wallpaper Adhesive

Rust-Oleum’s paper adhesive is the most durable option that can hold up even the heaviest wall covering. Each quart-size container covers up to five double rolls of standard vinyl wallpaper. Note that this paste works best on smooth, primed surfaces.

The average time for drying is somewhere between 24-48 hours. However, some wallpapers can take up to two weeks before the adhesive is completely dry and set.

You can re-glue any wallpaper that’s peeling at the seams.

With pre-pasted paper, the adhesive may not have been fully applied during manufacture. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe up any errant adhesive that may have squeezed out onto the wallpaper.

Many modern wallpapers comes “pre-pasted.” This means that the wallpaper adhesive is already applied to the back and the paper only needs to be soaked in water to activate the paste. However, some papers still come the old-fashioned way – without the paste.

The adhesive dries transparent and has a permanent bond to virtually any material or fabric. Use on wallpapers, light weight papers, felt, fabrics, cloths, foils, and cardboard’s. We use the Spray Glue when sewing quilts, or covering a photo album.

Removing existing wallpaper can cause damage to your walls if it is not done correctly. You need to strip it off with the right chemicals or tools. It is also possible that your existing wallpaper could damage your wall while it is stuck to it due to high humidity or moisture that is trapped behind the paper.

It was so easy.

There was a slight learning curve on those first two panels, but once you get the hang of it it basically puts itself up. The wallpaper is peel and stick, there’s no wetting paper or weird sticky glue. It’s completely removable, leaves no residue and can be repositioned over and over again.

You can use fabric as wallpaper. Using fabric as wallpaper is a great way to make your walls beautiful and is still temporary and easy to remove. While it does take quite a bit of time, the result is always more exciting than just basic paint or wallpaper.
