How do you clip in indoor cycling shoes?
Why can’t I clip into my pedals?
Make sure the front of your cleat goes into the pedal first, then push down on the back. If you cannot clip in no matter what, go back and ask your LBS to install multi-release SPD cleats for you (Model SM‑SH56.) These can make things easier, but they are mostly more for the clipping out part then the clipping in.
What clipless pedals should a beginner use?
For clipless beginners, SPD pedals are the way to go. Most pedals are double-sided, which makes learning to clip in much easier. The other advantage of the SPD system is the availability of Shimano’s multi-release cleats.
Are Look pedals better than Shimano?
Yes, they are more high maintenance, but the platform feels just as stable as the Shimano, it’s easier to adjust your heel angle and you can dial in any range of float you want. Additionaly, the walkable cleats are very easy to walk in compared to Shimano or Look. I don’t recall ever replacing a cleat. Or pedal.

Getting the right clipless pedal is crucial for beginners. Your pedals are an important interface between rider and bike, a crucial contact point for delivering power to the cranks. Finding the right pair should be a top priority for any road cyclist, regardless of experience or riding ability.
Are clip pedals dangerous?
One of the biggest lies told in the cycling industry is that clipless pedals are not more dangerous than flats and that they do not increase your risk of serious injuries. New riders are told that they are just “different” from flats and that neither is safer.
Are clip on pedals worth it?
Clip-on (“clipless“) pedals are useful for keeping feet in the correct riding position, which can be difficult to maintain when getting tired. Using flats with the correct positioning is the same efficiency – but – clip-on pedals make it easier to keep in the correct position.
Should I get clip pedals?
Knowing your feet will not slip off the pedals is another advantage, especially in wet conditions or over rough terrain. When correctly set up, a clipless pedal will ensure your foot is always correctly positioned over the pedal axle – giving you the best bio-mechanical leverage.
How do I get over my fear of clipless pedals?
Practise 2 things: Being comfortable riding really slowly and clipping in without looking at your feet. When you’re riding with flat pedals you should more or less stop and put your foot down at the same time – ideally you will get to the same place with clipless.
