You can‘t directly hardwire the controller. The AC adapter is used to power the controller inside the enclosure, and the enclosure can be hardwired to power the adapter.
Can Rachio be hard wired?
The enclosure is designed with an internal outlet to use the power adapter included with the Rachio controller. Rachio recommends hardwiring the enclosure. DO NOT DIRECTLY HARDWIRE YOUR RACHIO CONTROLLER.

Wifi will not travel through the walls or the windows. It is hit and miss when it comes to cell phone reception.
