What to use to level a tub?
Set the tub in place and place a level on one of the long sides. Have a helper lift the tub while you place shims under the legs or where the base touches the floor. Use metal or hardwood shims; softwood or plastic shims can compress over time with the weight the water and bathers.
Do you put cement board under bathtub?
There’s no real reason to have the cement backer board under the typical tub. I usually just run it under the front edge a couple or three inches so the tub is resting on it, and the rest of the tub is supported by the wood blocking attached to the studs.

The mortar should be damp, not runny. Spread it out and level it with a trowel. The mortar bed needs to be 30-40mm thick and should enable the slabs, when positioned, to sit 6-10mm high.
Is it best to lay slabs on sand or cement?
We’d always, always recommend bedding slabs down. Whilst you may get away with it in some instances, the vast majority of slabs won’t stay put when laid straight onto sand. We’d recommend bedding the slabs down with a simple mortar mix each and every time.
Can you lay pavers on just sand?
The vast majority of sand you see is just small pieces of rock. On some beaches it can be tiny pieces of sea shells or broken coral. In other words, compacted sand can provide a sufficient base for a paver patio that’s just going to have you walking across it.

Can you lay slabs without cement?
If you want to lay a patio without cement, you could lay slabs on a base of sand instead. This isn’t recommended though as the slabs are likely to loosen, sink and move around over time. You‘ll also find that slabs bedded on sand will quickly become overgrown with weeds.
