How to freeze wedding cake

Immediately following the wedding, place (or have someone else place) the top tier of the cake in the freezer for a few hours to freeze the outer layer of icing. Next, loosely wrap the entire cake with freezer-safe plastic wrap. Cover every inch of cake with plastic wrap, ensuring no piece remains exposed.

Hollander advises first chilling the cake in the refrigerator or freezer until it hardens. Then, wrap the cake (and its cake board, if available) in plastic wrap six times, as tight as possible. Next, place the wrapped cake within a zipped plastic bag, and take the air out of it.

Experts Agree That Eating Frozen Wedding Cake Is Safe — But Not Risk-Free. A long-honored tradition for married couples is to freeze the top layer of the wedding cake so they can eat it on their first anniversary for good luck.

Completely cover the cake with plastic wrap, making sure to wrap airtight. Follow by wrapping with at least 2 layers of heavy duty aluminum foil. The more protection you give the cake, the less chance of freezer taste or freezer burn. If desired, you can also place the cake in a storage container.

Refrigerating your cakes

Kept in the fridge, cake with buttercream or ganache topping will last for 3-4 days. If the cake has custard, cream, cream cheese or fresh fruit it will last 1-2 days at most.

Kimberly Bailey, owner of The Butter End Cakery, says, “There isn’t a safety issue with eating year-old cake, but don’t expect to enjoy it if it’s been freezer burned!” The truth is, as long as you properly store the cake, it should last even longer than a year.

Typically, a cake will only stay fresh for up to three or four days before the moisture is drawn out and the texture becomes drier. A cake can last in a fridge for a little bit longer if it has been frosted as the frosting keeps the moisture in the sponge.

STEP #12 : ANNOUNCE THE CUTTING OF THE CAKE

MC INTRODUCTION: “And now comes the cutting of that beautiful cake (find out who made it and announce that). So I’d like… (bride)…and… (groom)…to walk around to the front of the bridal table to perform their first duty as husband and wife.”

Cutting the Wedding Cake

The symbolism is that the hand of the groom is placed over that of the bride’s, to show his support and as a promise to take care of her and their future. The couple was encouraged to cut from the bottom tier, as a reminder of the relationship’s longevity.

The bride places her hand on the cake–cutting knife, and then the groom places his hand over hers as they make two gentle cuts to form a single slice of cake. You then remove the slice onto a plate, and the groom proceeds to feed you the first bite, and then you feed him the second one.
