How do you clean old wax brushes?
Fill a mason jar with enough Mineral Spirits to cover the wax coated bristles. Lightly press the tips of the bristles against the bottom and sides of the jar to loosen the wax. Let the brush sit about 2 minutes. The wax will start to dissolve in the Mineral Spirits.
How long do you leave Annie Sloan wax on before buffing?
If you want to buff your piece, wait until the solvents in the wax evaporate before buffing. If you buff too soon, you are effectively stripping the wax from the surface, which can leave dull areas. Although drying time can take as little as 10 to 20 minutes, a couple of hours or even overnight can be best.
Do you buff between coats of Annie Sloan wax?
After you have wiped off the wax, you can go back in and actually buff in the wax. This will create a more shiny appearance. This can also help avoid the blotchy look that sometimes happens if you have applied the wax unevenly. Apply the wax in thin coats.
Why is my Annie Sloan wax streaky?
A blotchy appearance can come from either a poor painting job, waxing in sections and not blending the areas in the final phase, or sometimes – over wiping wax off and causing some areas to seem buffed and other areas not. Using your finger, rub it in the size of a half dollar and then fill in the circle with the wax.
