Should you wish to purchase the additional 7kg of cabin baggage allowance under Xtra Carry On, this can be done when you make a flight booking on airasia.com under the “Add ons” section or after a flight booking via My Bookings is made up to 6 hours prior to scheduled departure time.

Should you wish to upgrade from a 20kg checked baggage to 25kg or more, this can be done via My Bookings or AVA up to 4 hours prior to scheduled departure time or even at the airport check-in counter. Each guest can purchase up to 40kg per way, per person.

Adding hold luggage to your booking

You can also add them after you’ve booked in Manage Bookings, or during online check-in. You can also do this at the airport or via our Customer Services Team but it does cost a little more.

If your hand baggage is over the weight limit, you will need to check it in and it will count towards your checked baggage allowance. If this then takes you over your free checked baggage allowance, or if you are travelling on a hand baggage only (Basic) fare, you will need to pay for extra baggage at the airport rate.

If your checked bag does happen to be overweight, take out the heaviest items and place them in your temporary bag. Once the bag is under the luggage limit and the fee avoided, you can try putting the items back into the larger bag, check both, or take the temporary bag with you on the plane.
