How to become a wax specialist

An esthetician is a person who specializes in the beautification of the skin. Estheticians (sometimes spelled aestheticians) are not medical doctors; instead, they perform cosmetic skin treatments, such as facials, superficial chemical peels, body treatments, and waxing.

Body waxing is a high margin treatment with low overhead — making it one of the most profitable services in the personal care arena, yet the number of waxing-only salons in the United States is relatively small, presenting a great opportunity for people who want to get in on the ground floor and capture the market.

At Home: Do it yourself waxing kits cost between $25-$100. Salon or Spa: Expect to pay $30-$55 for a half leg (ankle to knee or knee to thighs, not including bikini zone — both legs) or $45-$100 for a full leg (ankle to thighs, not including bikini zone — both legs).

If you are a Certified Waxer or a Licensed Waxer now, raise your hand. My hand is up, is yours? If you Live in the United States, you will most likely need a License to wax. A waxing certification will not be enough.

Promote waxing within the salon using window signs, front desk counter cards and station cards, Oskin advises—perhaps including tasteful images that depict great legs or a smooth-skinned body. “List all of your hair removal body and face parts with a clever headline and a simple price list,” Oskin says.
