Celia Gofton, a beloved former city councilwoman representing Sunderland has passed away on Friday. From 2006 to 2018, Celia, also known as Cecilia, represented the Pallion ward as a Labour councilor and was a part of the council’s cabinet.
Gofton had her kids, Lauren and her brother also got involved in politics, protested at Greenham Common, and she eventually was elected to the municipal council.
Lauren Laverne, her daughter, decides not to present Glastonbury coverage this weekend pulling herself out of the show as she is utterly grieved by her mother’s passing.

While the exact age of Celia Goften is unknown, she previously worked as the labor councilor for the Pallion ward and was an adored woman. Celia sadly passed away, albeit the exact reason for her death is yet unknown.
In a touching Instagram post, the morning show host Lauren, 44, who is representing the BBC at Somerset Festival, honored her mother.
In a lengthy post, she outlined her mother’s life, which included beginning with Celia’s school life and her latest phase of receiving care at UCLH. As she was laid to rest, Laverne expressed her gratitude to the team of UCHL who cared for her mother.

Goften was born in the middle of nine children and excelled as a negotiator and persuasive speaker. As per her daughter Lauren, Celia met her father when she was 16 and has always cherished him.
