Wright won his first Matchplay title by defeating an equally emotional Dimitri van den Bergh in the final in Blackpool.
And the Scotsman’s first words after receiving the trophy demonstrated how important it was to him and his life partner. “This is for Jo,” Wright told Sky Sports as he wiped his eyes and kissed his wife in the crowded stadium.
The camera then panned to Jo, who was shaking uncontrollably and appeared to be crying even more than her emotional husband.
Wright’s outpouring of emotion comes just weeks after Jo underwent her second major back surgery in April 2021.
He was concerned about her health and was saddened to see her suffering even after the surgery. However, she is all well now.
For everyone who has been asking I finally got my spine surgery done on Thursday. I had a Alif spine fusion which is performed through your stomach. I managed to travel to Blackpool on Saturday night to join Peter & my dad, who are looking after me well.https://t.co/mDrz4uG5rF
