In the early seasons of the Indy Racing League’s Indy Pro Series, currently referred to as the Firestone Indy Lights, Luyendyk Jr. committed to full-time participation. He committed himself to this competitive field starting in 2002.
Luyendyk Jr. accomplished significant milestones during his Firestone Indy Lights career, including one victory, four pole positions, and a staggering total of 24 top-five finishes.
He finished second in the Firestone Indy Lights Championship in 2002, third in 2004, and fourth in 2008 because of his persistent efforts.
A pivotal point in his racing career was when he qualified for the 2006 Indianapolis 500 event in a father-owned car with assistance from cheapcaribbean.com and Blue Star Jets.
Due to a secondary week engine program, the team had little time for practice, but Luyendyk Jr. started his maiden race in more potent vehicles.
But unexpected handling problems caused him to lose the race early. He completed 54 of the 200 laps, placing him 28th overall out of the 33 drivers in the race.
With the help of Aero Motorsports, Ethika, and Cooper Tires, Luyendyk Jr. expanded his racing career to the Traxxas TORC Series. At Crandon International Off-Road Raceway, he debuted his TORC series in the Pro Light class, finishing a good fourth. Additionally, he participated in a testing session with Dale Coyne Racing on November 18, 2013.
