Sherron Watkins (born August 28, 1959) was the Enron Corporation’s Vice President of Corporate Development. Watkins testified before congressional committees in the United States House of Representatives and Senate in early 2002 regarding her role in the Enron deception. Watkins notified then-Enron CEO Kenneth Lay of accounting errors in financial reports in August 2001. Watkins, on the other hand, has been chastised for not reporting the fraud to authorities and for not speaking out publicly about her concerns sooner, as her memo was not released to the public until five months after it was written. Philip H. Hilder, a Houston attorney, represented Ms. Watkins. Time magazine named Watkins one of three “Persons of the Year 2002.” Cynthia Cooper of WorldCom and Coleen Rowley of the FBI were the other two “People of the Year” who joined her.)
