Roger Ashby (born September 12, 1947 in England) had a long and illustrious career in football, both as a player and as a manager. He played at Kettering Town for almost 600 games before going on to manage Irthlingborough Diamonds, Rushden Town, Rushden & Diamonds, Bedford Town, Grantham Town, and Nuneaton Borough. Roger Ashby took over as manager of Nuneaton Borough in February 2004 (after Alan Lewer’s resignation), and guided the team to fourth, third, and second place positions in the Conference North league table. In the FA Cup, he got a replay against Middlesbrough in the third round in 2006. After a disappointing run of form, Ashby resigned as Nuneaton Borough manager on Monday, December 18, 2006.

He went on to manage Brackley Town in the Southern League Premier Division, but was fired a few months later after allegedly applying for a vacant manager’s position at Worcester City. Following his departure from Brackley, Ashby remained unemployed for a while, despite being offered the job of managing Rugby Town, which he turned down. In 2010, he returned to Kettering Town as an assistant manager to rookie boss Marcus Law. Ashby subsequently moved to Nene Park with the Poppies, but departed shortly after Law left to take up the empty manager’s job at Tamworth. Roger Ashby worked as an assistant manager at Solihull Moors after leaving Kettering, however he has since departed that post. Nick Ashby, his son, was the manager of Wellingborough Town in 2004, Raunds Town in 2005, and Bedworth United in 2006. Watford has hired Ashby Junior as a scout.
