Fox Networks Group President and Chief Operating Officer Randy Freer was appointed in October 2013 to the position of president and chief operating officer. The Fox Networks Group, which includes the FOX Broadcasting Company, FOX Sports, FX Networks, Fox International Channels, and National Geographic Channels, is under the direct supervision of Freer in this role, which includes revenue, distribution, and operational oversight.
He is also responsible for the purchase of rights and the development of partnerships with teams and leagues on behalf of FOX Sports. Freer reports to Peter Rice, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Networks Group, who is also his boss. Prior to being appointed to his present role, Freer served as Co-President and Chief Operating Officer of the FOX Sports Media Group, where he was responsible for expanding and improving FOX Sports’ renowned portfolio of league, conference, and club media rights, among other things.
Recent years have seen him oversee talks that have resulted in new long-term deals with the National Football League, Major League Baseball (MLB), NASCAR (NASCAR), the United States Golf Association (USGA), as well as the Pac-12, Big 12 and Big East conferences. The World Cup and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, both of which were acquired by Fox, were also major purchases for Freer (UFC). Freer’s efforts to increase the number of media rights available to FOX Sports helped set the groundwork for FOX Sports 1, the company’s new national sports television network, which debuted in August 2013 and is owned by Disney.
