From 1977 to 1982, Rick Buckler was the drummer for the English rock band The Jam. Rick Buckler was born Paul Richard Buckler on December 6, 1955, in Woking, Surrey, England, and was a member of The Jam from 1977 to 1982. The Jam was a British rock band that achieved considerable success in the United Kingdom from 1977 to 1982. Although Paul Weller was the driving force behind The Jam’s sound and popularity, the rhythm unit of Buckler on drums and Bruce Foxton on bass guitar played an important role in the band’s sound and success. Weller was the driving force for the Jam’s dissolution. Buckler was reportedly disdainful of the jazz influences in Weller’s post-Jam band The Style Council, according to a March 2006 article in Q Magazine, when Weller played recordings of his new songs to his ex-bandmate Buckler. Weller hasn’t had a social interaction with Buckler in more over two decades. In 1983, Buckler formed the band ‘Time UK,’ which included members such as himself, Jimmy Edwards and Ray Simone, all of whom were previously of ‘MasterSwitch,’ Danny Kustow from the Tom Robinson Band, and Martin Gordon, a former Sparks/Radio Stars bassist. While Gordon was a member of the band, his time there was short; he made recordings and played just one show with them before being replaced by Nick South of Sniff n’ the Tears and Steve Marriott’s All Stars. Time UK sold almost 60,000 copies of their debut song, “The Cabaret,” within its first week of release. ‘Sharp’ was a project in which Buckler reconnected with Foxton and Edwards to record several songs for the Unicorn record label, which was only active for a brief time.
