Patty Smyth (born June 26, 1957) is a singer and songwriter from the United States. She initially came to public notice in 1982 as the main vocalist of the band Scandal, which helped propel her to national prominence. She went on to record and perform on her own later in her career. Her unique voice and new-wave image received widespread exposure via video recordings that were broadcast on what were then newly developing cable music video channels such as MTV, and through live performances. It was a critical and commercial success for her first album Never Enough, which yielded a pair of Top 40 singles. The late Smyth had an enthralling stage persona, and he attracted huge crowds until the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, she returned to the Top 10 with the smash song “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough,” a duet with Don Henley, which peaked at number nine.
The song “Look What Love Has Done” for the 1994 film Junior was written and sung by her and James Ingram, who also co-wrote the tune. A Grammy Award nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media, as well as an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Original Song, were given to her in recognition of her efforts. In 1997, Smyth tied the knot with tennis player John McEnroe.
