Nils Nicklas Bendtner (Danish pronunciation: [nelas bndtner]; born 16 January 1988) is a Danish footballer who has represented both VfL Wolfsburg and Denmark at international level since 2008. A strong header allows him to play in his favourite position of centre forward, although he has also had experience on the right side of the attack as well. Bendtner began his professional career with Arsenal in 2005 after progressing through the youth levels of Trnby Boldklub, Kjbenhavns Boldklub, and Trnby Boldklub again. In a match against Sunderland in the Football League Cup in October 2005, he made his professional debut for the first time. When Bendtner was loaned out to Championship side Birmingham City for the 2006–07 season, he made 48 appearances for them. When he returned to Arsenal, he quickly established himself as a regular first-team member, but he started to fall out of favour during the 2010–11 season. Because of this, he was sent on loan to Premier League side Sunderland for the bulk of the 2011–12 season, where he appeared in 30 games and scored one. After that, he spent the whole 2012–13 season on loan with Serie A club Juventus, where he made 10 appearances but failed to register a single goal. Following his release from Arsenal, Bendtner joined Wolfsburg on an unrestricted basis in 2014. Bendtner has represented Denmark at the under-16, under-17, under-19, under-21, and senior levels on the international stage. When he made his senior international debut against Poland on August 16, 2006, it was also his first international goal, which he scored in the same game. Since then, he has received 62 caps, netting 24 goals in the process. He has also played for Denmark in the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament.
