In 1943, Geoffrey Walter Edelsten (born 2 May 1943) established the Allied Medical Group, which is now known as Allied Medical Group Australia.

As a general practitioner, Edelsten worked in New South Wales until being deregistered in that state, and subsequently in Victoria. For perverting the course of justice and enlisting Christopher Dale Flannery to attack a former patient, he was imprisoned in 1990 for five years each. In the 1980s, Edelsten’s unorthodox clinics and way of life drew the attention of the media and gained widespread recognition.

He had homes, helicopters, and a fleet of Rolls-Royces and Lamborghinis with licence plates that included the words Macho, Spunky, and Sexy, among other things. Chandeliers, grand pianos, and mink-covered examination tables adorned his multidisciplinary clinics, which were forerunners of contemporary corporate medical offices. His multidisciplinary practises were open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. By 2010, Allied Medical Group, which Edelsten co-founded with a business partner in 2005, was in charge of 17 medical facilities and employed about 250 general practitioners. Edelsten, on the other hand, is neither a stakeholder or owner in the business. Among his many accomplishments, Edelsten was the first private owner of an Australian football club of significance – the Sydney Swans Football Club, which he purchased in 1985.
