Bo Gritz (/??ra?tz/; born January 18, 1939) is a retired United States Army Special Forces officer who fought in the Vietnam War. He is the son of James Gordon “Bo” Gritz. His post-war actions – particularly his attempted POW rescues in connection with the Vietnam War POW/MIA problem – have been criticised for being unethical. Gritz is perhaps most known for his two presidential bids in the United States, both of which he ran in conjunction with the white nationalist America First party in 1988 and 1992. In 1988, Gritz campaigned for Vice President with David Duke, a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Gritz lost the election.
Gritz was a prominent supporter of the re-institution of racial segregation in states that had passed legislation to do so. He campaigned for governor in 1992 with the slogan “God, Guns, and Gritz,” and he released an isolationist political manifesto named “The Bill of Gritz.” “Bill of Gritz” advocated for a number of measures, including the full closure of the United States’ border with Mexico and the dissolution of the Federal Reserve. Gritz and his wife Judy reside in a little town in Sandy Valley, Nevada.
