Andrew Thomas Weil (/wal/) is an American medical doctor, naturopath, teacher, and writer who specialises in holistic medicine. He was born on June 8, 1942. He is the founder, professor, and director of the University of Arizona’s Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. Harvard University awarded him a medical degree as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology. Weil is credited with founding the discipline of integrative medicine, which seeks to integrate alternative and mainstream treatment.
Weil recommends that patients take the Western medication recommended by their physicians and then integrate alternative treatments into their treatment regimens, such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, herbal medicines, meditation, and other “spiritual” methods. Some mainstream physicians, on the other hand, have chastised Weil for rejecting parts of evidence-based treatment and advocating unproven ideas. In 1997 and 2005, Weil was featured on the cover of Time Magazine. He is the author of several novels that have sold over ten million copies. Books with names like “Spontaneous Healing,” “8 Weeks to Optimum Health,” and “Healthy Aging” are examples. Weil has been on Larry King Live, Oprah, and the Today Show many times.
