Hunt’s political career began when he was first elected as the Member of Parliament for South West Surrey, taking over from Virginia Bottomley on 5 May 2005. He was elected through a general election with a majority of 5,711. In December 2005, he was appointed Shadow Minister for Disabled People by David Cameron as a reward for supporting him for leadership of the Conservative Party.
Later Hunt was elected as Secretary of State for Culture, the Olympics, Media, and Sports from May 2010 to September 2012. During his tenure, Hunt encouraged the drive for local, focused n boosting philanthropy, and worked to provide Britain with the fastest broadband speed.
