He then graduated from Wesleyan University in 1965 and earned his J.D. in 1975 from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.

The couple got married in 1970 and has two sons, Russell and Thomas. Apparently, Russell is a high school teacher in Houston, while Thomas is an officer in the Houston Police Department.
