Shamima Begum is one of the notorious young jihadi brides who left home to join ISIL in 2015.
A 15-year-old at that time, she had followed her friend Sharmeena Begum to join the militant group. Out of the four brides, Shamima is the most open person to media.
In the past years, she came to the public, shared the harsh life throughout her time in ISIL, and hoped to return home. However, the Home Secretary revoked her British citizenship as of February 2019.
The U.K. Government is sure that Shamima would never be allowed to return due to her affiliation with the recognized terrorist group.
Shamima Begum And Husband Yago Riedijk Are Parents To All Three Deceased Children
When the 15-year-old left her U.K. home and arrived in Syria, she was married off to a fellow IS member, Yago Riedijk, ten days later.
Yago is about eight years older than Begum and is of Dutch origin. In a short time, they became parents to a total of three children.
Sadly, none of the children lived long as the couple is childless as of 2022 and also regretting their decision of having been members of ISIL.
Shamima mainly remained discreet regarding her location and whereabouts in the initial years of joining ISIL; hence her first two children and their death news remained away from public knowledge.
However, her third child Jerrah ‘s tragic death, touched many in the U.K. He was less than three weeks old when he died due to pneumonia.

Begum gave birth to Jerrah in a refugee camp and buried him there, BBC reported.
He was named after his first sibling, and as per the rules, his nationality was British since he was born before the Home Office revoked his mother’s citizenship.
Speaking to BBC that year, Shamima Begum had revealed her wish to quietly raise Jerrah in the U.K. as she had grown apart from ISIL.
Though she did not regret joining the group, there were certain things that she disagreed with the group.
While Begum was mourning her youngest child’s death, her husband was detained at a nearby prison and got the death news while being held inside.
The couple had been trying to enter both the U.K. and the Netherlands to living as a family at that time.
However, Yago’s marriage with Shamima may not be recognized under Dutch law since she was underage during their 2015 wedding.
What Happened To Shamima Begum Friends In 2022?
The teenage trio of close friends Shamima Begum, Amira Abase, and Kadiza Sultana, who had traveled to the IS territory in February 2015, were called jihadi brides.
The three became notable examples of some of the youngest people to join ISIL after their friend, Sharmeena Begum, who had moved there in December 2014.
Shamima and Sharmeena have no family relation though all four attended Bethnal Green Academy.
Coming in 2022, the updates on these ladies might break many hearts. While Shamima and her husband realized their mistake and sought media help to enter their homeland, the couple remains unsuccessful.
Sharmeena Begum has been reported missing since February 2019 after her Bosnian fighter husband was killed. She has not been found or heard of since Shamima Begum revealed that she last her friend in Baghuz in June 2018.
Likewise, the same goes for fellow friends Amira Abase and Kadiza Sultana, whose current status is unknown.
All four have become hated figures in their home country by their family, friends, and the public.
Meanwhile, “The Secret History of the Five Eyes” recently claimed that Shamima Begum and her two friends were smuggled into Canada to work for IS.
Begum’s lawyers challenged that she was a trafficking victim and to remove her British citizenship ban, per Daily Mail UK.

Shamima Begum Do Not Share A Good Bond With Her Parents And Family
In the notorious case of the Bethnal Green trio, Shamima Begum is estranged from her parents and family due to citizenship issues.
Her father, Ahmed Ali, currently lives in a village in north-eastern Bangladesh, while her mother’s identity and whereabouts have escaped public knowledge.
While the elderly Mr. Ali spoke to BBC’s Anbarasan Ethirajan in 2019, addressing the dire situation between his daughter and the British government, he has not been heard since then.
Ali had apologized to the British public for Shamima’s wrongdoings of joining ISIL at a young age though he believed that the government should not strip off Begum’s citizenship.
Meanwhile, Shamima’s mother has remained silent on the matter. OP India reported that the jihadi bride had initially blamed her mother for her decision to move to Syria.
She said that her mother “did not make her feel loved,” and their complicated relationship was one of the many reasons for joining ISIL.
Likewise, when the Bangladeshi-British family came to know of Begum and her friends’ disappearance, they had hoped that the trio had only gone to Syria to bring back Sharmeena Beguk, but that did not happen.
Today, Shamima is still fighting a legal battle against the U.K. government to enter the country.
