How do i get something out of my eye

If an object gets into your eye it can damage the surface of the cornea. This is known as “corneal abrasion” or “corneal erosion.” It’s not always visible. If you have a corneal abrasion it can feel like there’s still something in your eye – even if the object has been removed.

An object may also cause a subconjunctival hemorrhage, or bleeding in the white part of the eye. This condition generally does not require medical treatment and resolves on its own within 2–3 weeks , but it is best to see a doctor so that they can rule out any other eye injury.

Usually you will be instructed to flush out the eye with warm water. If no label is available, flush the eye with water for about 15 minutes. Then seek medical help immediately. You can also contact a poison control hotline, such as Poison Help, for more information, but do this after you have flushed out the eye.

If the object is on an eyelid, try to gently flush it out with water or eye drops. If that does not work, try touching a second cotton-tipped swab to the object to remove it. If the object is on the white of the eye, try gently rinsing the eye with water or eye drops.

This causes bacteria to build up, increasing your risk for an eye infection. Using water or spit to rinse contact lenses. Saliva is loaded with germs and tap water has harmful organisms that can cause an eye infection that can even lead to blindness.
