Golfer Patrick Reed has bombarded the news with his recent decision to fight the golf commentator, Brandel Chamblee.
He is best known for winning nine PGA tournament games, including the 2018 Masters Tournament and two World Golf Championships, the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship, and the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship.
After his unforgettable time on PGA Tour, Reed currently plays with LIV Golf as of 2022.
Likewise, he is best known as “Captain America” for his impressive performances in the Ryder Cup on behalf of the United States throughout these years.
How Did Golfer Patrick Reed Cheat?
In addition to his hugely successful golf career, the Masters champion has faced several controversies.
Back in 2019, Reed was a participant in the Tiger Woods-organized Hero World Challenge tournament.
Essentially Sports reports that when he was getting ready to play his third shot on the par-5 11th hole during the third round at Albany, his ball was in a depression in the sand, and he was in a waste bunker.
The cameras caught him hitting the ball twice in practice swings while shifting sand out from under it, termed illegal in the PGA Tour’s rulebook.
Per the rule, the officials gave him a two-stroke penalty, and Reed continues to defend himself against that particular incident, even today.
As the golf fanatics have called it cheating, the PGA’s nine-time winner refuses to acknowledge it as cheating.
Patrick Reed Denies Cheating And Stealing During His College Days
Not only the 2019 incident but Reed’s previous days also include various allegations which have often become a hindrance to his public image.
Golf.com writes that he had joined the Athens-based University of Georgia in 2008 but was kicked out after a year.
In Shane Ryan’s book, “Slaying the Tiger: A Year Inside the Ropes on the New PGA Tour,” Ryan talks about the accusations of cheating and stealing from teammates against Reed.
On the other hand, the future Masters champion denied the accusations in a Golf Channel interview. He defended himself, saying he was dismissed for alcohol violations, other than the rumors.
He was booked for underage drinking and possessing a fake ID, for which he received a fine and a sentence of 60 hours of community service.
After being kicked out by the UGA team, Reed joined Augusta State University and graduated in business. He played a big part in leading the uni to NCAA Division I titles in 2010 and 2011.
Masters Tournament Champion Has Filed A Lawsuit Against Brandel Chamblee
Coming in 2022, Reed filed a lawsuit before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas in his hometown on Tuesday. The complaint is against the Golf Channel and commentator Brandel Chamblee.
ESPN reports that Reed’s allegations include “misreporting information with falsity and/or reckless disregard of the truth, to mislead the public, and actively targeting him to destroy his reputation, create hate, and a hostile work environment for him.”
The 2018 Masters champion also alleges that Chamblee and Golf Channel conspired with the PGA Tour and commissioner Jay Monahan to defame him “since he was 23 years old.”
The processing for the lawsuit started in January 2020, when Reed’s lawyer had sent a cease-and-desist letter to Chamblee demanding him not to defame him regarding the 2019 cheating incident.
However, Reed and his team are not happy hope Chamblee continued to slander the golfer for the cheating allegations and for his decision to leave PGA Tour for LIV Golf this year.
