Jerry Garcia lost his finger while they were hoping for wood as children. His brother Tiff accidentally chopped it off with an axe while the family was vacationing in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Garcia later confessed that he often used it to his advantage in his youth, showing it off to other children in his neighbourhood.
