American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist Burt Freeman Bacharach lived from May 12, 1928, until February 8, 2023. He wrote hundreds of pop songs between the late 1950s and the 1980s, typically in collaboration with lyricist Hal David.
More than 1,000 different musicians have recorded songs by six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award nominee Burt Bacharach. By 2014, he has written 73 US Top 40 hits and 52 UK Top 40 successes. He was a pivotal figure in the composition of popular music in the 20th century.

On February 8, 2023, Bacharach, who was 94 years old, passed away in his Los Angeles residence from natural causes. Model and former Miss International 1971 Jane Cheryl Hansen represents New Zealand.
