Alaska Daily is an American drama series created by Tom McCarthy for ABC, which debuted on October 6, 2022.

The series stars Hilary Swank as Eileen Fitzgerald, a journalist seeking a new start in Anchorage, Alaska. Jeff Perry, Grace Dove, Meredith Holzman, and Ami Park also appear in the series.

The drama series is about a journalist, Eileen, from New York who moves to Alaska and joins a metro newspaper in Anchorage.

She works with Roz Friendly, a colleague at the newspaper, to release reports on the missing and murdered Indigenous women crisis.

The last episode (E08) of the series aired on March 9, 2023, and it was incredibly emotional, leaving fans pondering the fate of one of their favorite characters, Gabriel.

Is Pablo Castelblanco Leaving Alaska Daily?

No, Pablo Castelblanco is not leaving Alaska Daily. Though the last episode suggests, he might be quitting The Daily Alaskan.

In the eighth episode, the hostage situation is over, but Gabriel and Eileen are still traumatized by the event. Eileen starts visiting a therapist and admits she is not sleeping well.

After a while, Eileen returns to work, and all her colleagues welcome her back with open arms. Meanwhile, Tovar is taking time to process his trauma of being held, hostage.

In the newsroom, the group talks about how Tovar is doing. Claire then approaches Bob to call him and find out how he is doing.

It seems that he is having some kind of trauma. Bob tells him to call back in case he needs anything. Later, Gabriel ushers Bob, Austin, Yuna, Claire, and Stanley to his house.

They all come to cheer him up, but the atmosphere turns down when he reveals he won’t be returning to The Daily Alaskan.

While there is much to unpack from Episode 8, viewers are concerned that they might lose Gabriel. Pablos’ character is a breath of fresh air in the show, and we hope Gabriel changes his mind before the season ends.

The matter has further sparked discussion on social platforms. Fans have taken to their Twitter account to express their pity for Gabriel.

On March 10, Alaska Daily wrote “Gabriel” and added a love and broken heart emoji on Twitter. Following this, one user said, “im gutted….sweet Gabriel needs my hugs & squeezes,” in the comment section.

Another added, “He is so cute. Will miss him.” However, whether or not the character follows through with his decision is yet to be seen.

What Happened To Gabriel On Alaska Daily?

In Episode 7, Eileen and Gabriel were taken hostage by Concerned Citizen (Bill Dawes). They were released at the end of the episode.

During the episode, Eileen tries to make Eric Barry understand that Dennis was exploiting his pain and making him do wrong things.

Just then, a phone rings and Eric picks it up -it is the negotiator. While talking to her, he noticed Eileen looking at the analytics screen and learned they were actually communicating with her.

He immediately shoots the screen, finds Gabriel, and takes him, hostage. Eric then brings Eileen and Gabriel inside one of the smaller rooms in the newsroom.

Eileen keeps convincing Eric that there is still time and he can live his life rightfully. Later, Eric is fatally shot by a sniper while he was holding the pistol up to Eileen.

In Episode 8, the hostage situation is over, but Eileen and Gabriel are having a difficult time adjusting to the event. And while Eileen starts seeing a therapist, the latter decides to stay at home.

After a while, she returns to work, but Gabriel is still taking time off. In the newsroom, the group wonders how Gabriel is doing and decides to visit him until Bob suggests they need to give him space.

Later, Claire comes to his house for a visit and brings dinner. Bob also arrives with food, with Austin, Yuna, and Stanley joining them. Soon the happy time turns dull when Gabriel says he is leaving the paper.

Alaska Daily Episode 8 Recap

Season 2 Episode 8 resumes its regular schedule program and gets back on track by prioritizing the Gloria Nanmac case.

Following the ordeal that went down during the hostage period, everyone was a bit on edge. But after a few days off and a brief chat with a therapist, Eillen is back to work.

And while Gloria’s case is layered and deeply unsettling, getting back to it gave Eileen a feeling of purpose.

She manages to convince the public safety commissioner to reclassify the case as a homicide so they could run the DNA test. Gloria’s mother, Sylvie, just wants to find out what really happened to her daughter.

When Reed’s name popped up, Sylvie was adamant that Gloria was not involved in the church. Roz speaks to one of Gloria’s friends, Alice, and discovers Gloria wanted to expose Reed and his abusive practices.

After the DNA tests, the commissioner was filing a warrant for Gloria’s good friend, Toby Crenshaw, and Roz and Eileen were shocked to know that Reed wasn’t their guy.

Eileen later finds out that Conrad was planning to sell the paper. Conrad would rather witness local journalism drown than be held responsible for his actions.

In the end, The Daily Alaskan falls into safe hands as Aaron Pritchard owns it. Eileen and Roz must get back to Toby to pull all the information out of him. The next episode will throw more light on Nanmac’s case.

What happens next? Will Roz and Eileen find a way to help clear Toby’s name? Will Gabriel stick to his decision? Stay tuned for the next episode, which airs on March 16, 2023.
