The 82-year-old American actress Raquel Welch has passed away. She is frequently credited with helping to establish the modern action heroine in Hollywood movies.
The celebrity died quietly on Wednesday morning following a brief illness, according to her management.
Welch, who was born Jo-Raquel Tejada in 1940, grew up in California, where she competed in and won teen beauty pageants before working as a local weather forecaster.
The divorced mother-of-two modelled for Neiman Marcus while living briefly in Dallas, Texas, where she also worked as a cocktail waitress.
Her major break came in 1964, not long after she returned to California, when cameo appearances in the Elvis Presley musical Roustabout and the film A House Is Not A Home gave her recognition.
