Harry Potter News

Twitter is getting fed up with J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter reveals

J.K. Rowling seems to think that Harry Potter fans have an insatiable thirst for untold backstories about the characters.

But some frustrated fans say she’s just thirsty for attention.

As has become her habit, the British scribe dropped another retroactive bombshell about her canonical series this week, this one about powerful wizard Albus Dumbledore’s sexual history. While the author has long maintained that the Hogwarts headmaster is gay, this is the first time she’s talked about his past … er, experiences.

Via the Twitter account The Rowling Library, the author revealed Sunday that the love once shared between Dumbledore and rival wizard Gellert Grindelwald — a major plot point in her series of Potter prequels, “Fantastic Beasts” — was indeed “intense,” “passionate” and “sexual.”

For many Potter readers, it’s time for Rowling’s Twitter TMI to stop. Because these new details don’t appear in the books, critics say it feels like the author is now committed to writing her own fan fiction.

Sure enough, in September, the author and British OBE declared that Nagini — the slithering snake companion to evil Lord Voldemort — was actually a tortured, shapeshifting woman all along. And before that, in May, the author apologized to fans for killing off Dobby the house elf, because apparently she still feels guilty about it all these years later.

While Potter aficionados used to hang on Rowling’s every word, more than a few are starting to wish she’d just keep her chamber of secrets shut.

“At this point, jk rowling really must be trolling us,” one Potter pundit tweeted.

The author’s most recent reveal has even inspired an entire genre of jokes, framing the Dumbledore news as information that nobody asked for.

“JK Rowling: Hagrid can squat 400kg,” a British fitness brand wrote, parodying her tendency to share odd, random details from her fictional universe.

Other wisecracks are way too raunchy to publish here.

Yet even during this most recent social media pile-on, Rowling still has diehard fans who are more than willing to defend her.

“If you get that offended because JK Rowling suggests an interpretation that is not consistent with yours, you just prove yourself to be close-minded,” one valiant enthusiast tweeted.

Harry Potter books among items burned at Catholic parish in Poland

Priests at a Catholic parish in northern Poland have burned books, including the Harry Potter series, and other items that their owners said had evil forces.

Images from the burning at Gdansk’s Mother of Church parish on Sunday were posted on Facebook by a Catholic foundation that uses unconventional ways of religious work.

In the pictures, flames are consuming an African wooden mask, figurines of elephants and books on personality and magic, as well as those by JK Rowling, all bought in by parishioners.
A priest and altar boys are watching the book burning.

The foundation said the book burning was intended to alert parishioners to bad influences that it says comes from magic and the occult.

Comments under the post condemned the book burning, recalling that also happened in Nazi Germany before the Second World War.
