Scott was born in Detroit, Michigan on Christmas Eve, December 25, 1995. Hailie Jade Scott-Mathers was not homeschooled, unlike many famous children; she attended Chippewa Valley High School in Michigan, where she played volleyball and was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, she headed to Michigan State University, where she earned a degree in psychology.

They became friends and at the age of fifteen, Kim and her twin sister Dawn ran away from home and moved in with Eminem and his mother.
